crispy fried plantains

Crispy fried plantains better known as Pisang goreng is a typical Indonesian snack. Most of the times these fried plantains comes with a rice or noodle dish. For this recipe you need ripe plantains and make a batter, so the crispy part comes after frying. When crispy fried plantains are ready, you can eat them with satay sauce. This is another recipe to try with these delicious plantains. You can serve these plantains as a snack or appetizer as well.

When you start with this recipe, you need to start first with the batter! Then you can pre heat sunflower oil to 350F/175C. In the mean time, you can peel all plantains and cut them in half. Then you can slice them about half inch thick!

The batter makes these plantains very crispy and gooey inside.

 

Directions

  1. whisk first 100 grams of all purpose flour with 1 tsp of coarse salt and 1 tsp of baking powder.
  2. Add 175 ml carbonated water and whisk well! Make sure there are no lumps in your batter!
  3. Mix 50 grams of rice flour and whisk this smooth!
  4. Finish this batter with 1 tsp of vanilla extract and 1 tsp of granulated sugar.
  5. Pre heat fresh sunflower oil in a large pan or saute frying pan. In the mean time you can peel all 3 plantains and cut them in half. Make of each half plantain slices half inch thick and dip them into the batter.
  6. When sunflower oil reaches 350F/175C you can deep fry each battered slice on both sides. Do this until each crispy fried plaintain is golden brown of color.
  7. Put them on a piece of kitchen towel to drain the excessive oil and serve them warm with satay sauce.
